Listen to the "I-Feel-Like-I'm-Fixin'-to-Die Rag" (in RealAudio.)

Yeah, come on all of you, big strong men,
Uncle Sam needs your help again.
He's got himself in a terrible jam
Way down yonder in Vietnam
So put down your books and pick up a gun,
We're gonna have a whole lotta fun.

And it's one, two, three,
What are we fighting for ?
Don't ask me, I don't give a damn,
Next stop is Vietnam;
And it's five, six, seven,
Open up the pearly gates,
Well there ain't no time to wonder why,
Whoopee! we're all gonna die.

Well, come on generals, let's move fast;
Your big chance has come at last.
Gotta go out and get those reds —
The only good commie is the one who's dead
And you know that peace can only be won
When we've blown 'em all to kingdom come.

And it's one, two, three,
What are we fighting for ?
Don't ask me, I don't give a damn,
Next stop is Vietnam;
And it's five, six, seven,
Open up the pearly gates,
Well there ain't no time to wonder why
Whoopee! we're all gonna die.

Huh!

Well, come on Wall Street, don't move slow,
Why man, this is war au-go-go.
There's plenty good money to be made
By supplying the Army with the tools of the trade,
Just hope and pray that if they drop the bomb,
They drop it on the Viet Cong.

And it's one, two, three,
What are we fighting for ?
Don't ask me, I don't give a damn,
Next stop is Vietnam.
And it's five, six, seven,
Open up the pearly gates,
Well there ain't no time to wonder why
Whoopee! we're all gonna die.

Well, come on mothers throughout the land,
Pack your boys off to Vietnam.
Come on fathers, don't hesitate,
Send 'em off before it's too late.
Be the first one on your block
To have your boy come home in a box.

And it's one, two, three
What are we fighting for ?
Don't ask me, I don't give a damn,
Next stop is Vietnam.
And it's five, six, seven,
Open up the pearly gates,
Well there ain't no time to wonder why,
Whoopee! we're all gonna die

Thanks, Light, for reminding me of this. Does history repeat itself, or what.

Well LO looks like everyone has been taking a walk down memory lane lately (only some of them are nightmares). I agree with Daze how does it go..."If we don't learn from the past we are forced to repeat it" Hope we learned something. It really hasn't been that long. I still have my MIA bracelet

Hi Hoodoo, Thank you for your comments regarding my blog. Based on your comments, we are probably closer politically than you think. I agree that both parties are filled with hacks and thugs, and that both are corrupt to the degree that they depend upon corporate donations for influence in legislation. As a letter writer said in a letter to our local newspaper this morning, corporations don't donate, they invest. And they expect a return on their investment. The result is that we are rapidly becoming America, Inc. The representation goes back to the origin of the money, and that is why this nation increasingly has a government of, by, and for the corporations. Although my wife is a registered Republican, I am currently so disgusted with both parties that I am considering registering as an independent for the next election. Is there an honest candidate out there? San Diego, as you probably know, has recently had more than its share of political corruption, with two councilmen found guilty of accepting bribes for political favors, a mayor forced to resign for malfeasance in office, and just a couple of days ago, we had the resignation of Rep. "Duke" Cunningham, after he tearfully confessed to accepting 2.4 million dollars in bribes from defense contractors. At this point, I am not looking so much at political party philosophy as at honesty in government, which seems to be a rare commodity today. Thank you again for your comments.
